An impact recorder tracks vibration, shock, tilt, and acceleration events that occur during transport, handling, and installation of a power transformer. Large power units are mechanically sensitive; excessive impacts can damage core clamping, winding supports, bushings, or OLTC mechanisms. Recorded data helps determine if a transformer experienced stresses outside manufacturer limits and whether additional inspections, DGA sampling, or electrical tests are required before energization.
