Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) are the most commonly used base catalysts for mustard oil biodiesel. The oil’s relatively low free fatty acid content usually allows for direct base-catalyzed transesterification without pre-treatment. The GlobeCore USB system is compatible with both catalysts and allows for fine-tuning dosage based on feedstock quality. Antioxidant additives can be used post-production to improve the stability of biodiesel made from high-erucic-acid oils like mustard.
