    Infrared spectroscopy, particularly Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), is used to identify functional groups and chemical bonds within bitumen. By analyzing the absorption of infrared light at different wavelengths, researchers can determine the presence of specific compounds, assess aging by detecting oxidation products, and evaluate the effects of additives or modifiers on the bitumen’s chemical structure.
