The TOR-7 transformer oil tester measures moisture, hydrogen, gas content, and solid particle contamination in a single device. Water activity (aw) is measured from 0 to 1 with high accuracy, and temperature is recorded. Hydrogen and contamination are measured from 25–5,000 ppm with good precision and low cross-sensitivity to other gases. Oil purity is assessed according to ISO 4406 and SAE standards, covering a viscosity range of 1–1,000 mm²/s and ISO contamination classes from 9/8/7 to 25/24/23.

The TOR-7 transformer oil tester is designed to determine the volumetric gas content, moisture, contamination by solid particles, and hydrogen content in oil. The device can analyze mineral transformer oils with specific characteristics:

  • kinematic viscosity at 50 °C – 2…12 mm2/s;
  • density at 20°C – 800…950 kg/m3;
  • mass moisture content in oil – not more than 10 ppm;
  • industrial purity class according to ISO 4406 – not worse 21/19/16.

Operating Principle

Measurements are based on tracking the pressure change of gas within a vacuumed cylinder during the pouring of an oil portion. Considering the volumes of the cylinder and the poured oil, as well as the pressure inside the cylinder before and after pouring, one can determine the volumetric gas content. With the help of sensors and a control board, the moisture content, oil temperature, hydrogen content, and the number of solid particles in the oil are calculated and displayed on the screen.
