In South Africa power transformers are used by the national utility, municipal distributors, mining operations, mineral processing plants, petrochemical complexes, heavy manufacturing, commercial developments and transport infrastructure such as rail and ports. Renewable energy projects, especially solar and wind farms, also deploy many transformers for grid connection. Because of long distances and remote locations, mining and rural electrification rely heavily on robust transformers that can withstand harsh environmental conditions and limited maintenance access.
