Base oils bleaching

fuel oil polishing system

Millions of tons of used petroleum oils are produced every year in the world, most of which are motor oils. Today, the most rational method of handling such oils is their distillation to obtain new products. One of these products can be base oil, to which special additives are then added. They give oils specific properties and allow their use in power turbines, engines, gearboxes, hydraulic presses and other industrial equipment.

Why Base Oil Requires Finishing

But despite preliminary cleaning of used motor oils and several stages of their processing, the base oil is obtained in a darker color than new commercial oil, which is due to the presence of aging and oxidation products. That’s why base oil obtained through the method of distillation from used motor oil needs finishing process, usually adsorption, which allows to bleach a product in a process and give it commercial form.

GlobeCore CMM-R Purification Technology

Specially for implementation of finishing base oils processing GlobeCore developed purification technology with Fuller earth in CMM-R plants. The plants include columns filled with Fuller’s earth. Base oil is pumped through these columns and during this process unwanted impurities are removed from it, which are absorbed by the sorbent and reliably retained in its granules. As a result, at the exit from the CMM-R units, the base oil is purified and acquires a marketable appearance. GlobeCore produces plants with 6, 10, 12 and 24 columns, which provides lightening performance of base oils from 400 to 4000 liters per hour.

Sorbent Reactivation Advantage

In the general case, the sorbent gradually becomes saturated with impurities and over time needs to be replaced and disposed of. The main advantage of GlobeCore technology is the possibility of reactivating the saturated sorbent without discharging it from the columns, after which the reactivated sorbent can be reused for the clarification of base oils. The sorbent can be reactivated up to 500 times or more, which is equivalent to several years of operation of the regeneration equipment. This simplifies maintenance and allows you to save money on the purchase and utilization of the sorbent.

CMM-R base oil bleaching units are compact and automated. They can fit on a trailer or trailer for ease of movement between facilities or refineries.
