What to Do with Used Oil?

Petroleum oils are chemically aggressive substances which are able to interact with other materials under certain environmental conditions.  Incineration of waste oil can lead to emission of undesired components into the atmosphere (sulfur oxides, carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, dust, ash, soot, etc.).  The substances contained in waste oil can cause serious diseases, as well as lead to the development of pathologies in newborns.

Definitely, in each case the degree of exposure to waste oil depends on the physiological characteristics of a human body.  In case of contact with waste oil, each individual has his or her own acceptable concentration limit of exposure and threshold dose.

The severity of disease and harm to a human body caused by waste mineral oils, their vapors and combustion products is an area which is not fully investigated.  However, there were statistics conducted in Europe on such cases, and when their quantity ran into thousands, many governments were forced to impose restrictions on the turnover of almost all types of petroleum oil.

Burning is one of the possible ways of dealing with waste oil.  But the fact is that in this case the atmosphere is polluted with toxic products that are no less dangerous than waste oil itself.  So far the issue concerning a rational choice of location for incineration equipment has not been fully resolved.  In many countries there is a prohibition on locatiing such facilities within city boundaries and in densely populated areas.

Waste oil can be used in households for treatment of the back side of wood fences or panels used as floorboards.  This treatment helps protect the wood products from the negative effects of fungi, moisture and mold.

Some builders recommend adding waste oil into asphalt or bitumen.  In their opinion it increases the final plasticity of these construction materials, which makes them more durable.

Also, waste oil is used for heating of various premises, which is facilitated by its calorific value.  The main problem that must be solved at such usage is the acquisition or manufacturing of a furnace (boiler) operating on this type of fuel.

In the construction industry, waste oil can be used as a separating layer in the production of concrete products and reinforced concrete.  Interestingly, originally special emulsions are used for lubricating forms and molds, but waste oil is much cheaper.  Environmental organizations are opposed to such use of waste oil, because in this case the ingress of toxic substances on the surface of building walls is possible.

In our opinion, the most preferred method of dealing with waste oil from the point of view of ecology, and from the point of view of economy is its oil filtration and oil reclaiming (recovery).

Restoration of mining properties involves the removal of all harmful contaminants: water, metal particles, oxidation products, resin compounds, soot. GlobeCore is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of equipment for reclaiming of transformer, turbine, industrial, transmission and other types of oil.  GlobeCore plants allow to completely restore the operating parameters of waste oil to standardized values, making it possible to use it again for its intended purpose.  The recovery process is eco-friendly, economical and energy-efficient.

As a result, recovery significantly extends oil service life and improves the reliability of the equipment in which this oil is used.

Enterprises that use oil-filled equipment can now save money on waste oil disposal and purchase of new oil.  Due to their mobility GlobeCore plants can be moved on the vast territory without any problems from one object to another one and carry out the reclaiming of mineral oil, even in hard to reach places.
