Dark diesel fuel polishing – is an operation that is performed when diesel fuel loses its natural colour and becomes darker due to prolonged storage. Diesel fuel is used in many industries. It is used by ships, tractors, harvesters, trucks, diesel trains, etc. Many businesses try to insure themselves against seasonal fluctuations in diesel fuel prices and not to overpay. Therefore they purchase large batches of diesel fuel and then use their own warehouse stocks of this product.
Why diesel fuel changes colour
Not all types of diesel fuel have a stable composition during long-term storage. Diesel fuel oxidizes, water gets into it, and resinous substances are formed. As a result the fuel darkens and loses its performance characteristics. You cannot use such fuel, as it will disrupt the engine functioning. It will result in sedimentation of resinous substances in the fuel injection equipment, and in formation of soot on the combustion chambers surfaces, exhaust valves and nozzles. And water will disable the fuel high-pressure pump. That is the reason such fuel must be pre-prepared before pouring into diesel engines and plants.
Methods for purification and polishing diesel fuel
Various methods are used to purify diesel fuel after long-term storage. These methods are settling, filtration, centrifugation. These methods are suitable for removing mechanical impurities and water, but they are not able to restore the original color and smell of the fuel, and they are not able to reduce the sulfur content also. This requires additional purification, usually with the use of special adsorbents.
GlobeCore dark diesel fuel polishing system
The GlobeCore company has developed a technology for dark diesel fuel adsorption purification, which is implemented in CMM-6RL type machines. The machine includes six columns, each of which is filled with an adsorbent with good absorbing properties. During the flowing of fuel through the columns, the adsorbent absorbs unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons, asphalt-resinous substances, sulfur-, nitrogen-, and acid-containing compounds from the fuel. As a result, diesel fuel is polished, restores its group composition and performance characteristics.
One of the main features of the CMM-6RL diesel fuel polishing machine is the ability to reactivate the adsorbent without removing it from the regeneration columns. The GlobeCore technology ensures the adsorbent regeneration by burning method and ensures its repeated use for diesel fuel purifying and polishing (at least 300-500 reactivations).
For the best result of dark diesel fuel polishing, GlobeCore recommends pre-removal of mechanical impurities using the CMM-F unit, and pre-dehydration using the CMM-1CF unit.
Thus the use of GlobeCore technologies allows you to completely restore the color and other performance characteristics of diesel fuel after its long-term storage and to save money due to the preliminary purchase of the fuel at a lower price.
